SilverStone TJ11 Preview: It's a TJ07 and FT02 lovechild
The top grille cover is held on with clips and pops off with a simple tug. The big square grilles underneath have a little 'caution hot' logo on for a reason: apparently the metal gets seriously hot around these exhaust vents with a high-powered system installed.
The top grille cover just pops off with a tug. Get used to not putting your coffee on it though!
It's the big rectangular holes on the side that we're not sold about though; with the angular vents underneath and bolted in, tapered window above, it makes the case look unfinished. They do have reasons for existing: to let air in for the AP fans and to enable the fan filters to slide out without having to remove the side panel. However, the vents don't, in our opinion at least, fit the rest of the design well.
Side holes - convenient but ugly?
Because of the TJ11s rather portly standing, for the first time in SilverStone's uniquely 90 degree angled motherboard design, there is actually a motherboard tray that pulls out the roof to allow easier installation of your hardware. Removable motherboard trays are a love-hate topic for people, but we can certainly see the advantage here given the TJ11 size and lack of wheels to twirl it around during the build process. That is, providing you don't drop the tray come the return journey!
Space for two PSU slots and a motherboard tray
Two 180mm AP fans are included as standard, and we've been told that the two 120mm fans that cool the 3.5in drive bays will also apparently get the AP treatment too. All the fans have black, slightly rubberised sleeving to match the entirely black interior and exterior style as well.
Is space for six hard drives enough?
Is space for six 3.5in hard drives enough? Do we need a dozen? Please let us know your 'big drive' needs. Don't confuse these with SSD space though - check the pictures on the page over for specific SSD mounting, because SilverStone has managed to neatly squeeze three 2.5in drive bays in between the 5.25in cage and side panel. It's a good use of space, but we're unsure how neat the cabling to the drives will turn out to be though.
